Usher’s Galaxy

August 30th, 2006 by Edina

Usher

Tuesday night I went out to meet up with some friends at a low key bar in Union Square called Galaxy. When I got there it was the usual mischievous loud and annoying shenanigans that seem to surround me where ever I go (poor me) and considering there was only one other group of people at the bar, I didn’t feel too bad for being my usual loud and obnoxious self. After a holla at my friends, they laughingly informed me that they just met Usher - pointing towards the other group of people who were big black men in suits. Assuming my friends were kidding, I laughed out loud and yelled “UUSSHHUUURRR!!” and did a dance which could only be described as my best impression of Usher.

Bloody Viewings

I have to admit that I have been out with my share of losers in the last few years, so I knew I had found a superior breed of male when a man I’ve been out with ONCE before asked if he could take me to the theater for our second date. YES! I quickly responded to his text. “I’d love to see The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” he quickly typed back.

I agreed, as I, unlike most females, love the twisted sense of humor with which Martin McDonough saturates his writing.

Shakespeare in the Park

Summer Stage

Sunday was just one of those beautiful days where you did not want to be inside, so when I was offered the chance to see the closing night of Shakespeare in the Park’s “Macbeth,” of course I went for it. Two of my friends arrived in line at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater around 5:00 AM - a time of day I have not seen recently.

Despite the early hour, they dragged themselves out of bed a little after 4:00 AM (!!!) and faithfully waited in line until the box office began handing out the free “golden” (well, actually green) tickets at 1:00 PM. Now that’s dedication.

Summer Camp

Charles Busch and Julie HalstonChristopher Meloni, humping. Need I say more? Last night I attended The Actors’ Fund benefit/staged reading of Die Mommie Die! at the historic Hudson Theatre. Playwright Charles Busch, famous for titillating titles including Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and Pardon My Inquisition, or Kiss the Blood Off My Castanets, donned the drag that made him famous to reprise the role of Angela Arden in the New York premiere of the work, which featured SVU-famous Meloni and a coterie of local theater stars to provide visual back-up for Busch’s shining performance.
