Fame Becomes Me

Fame Becomes Me

Hi, my name is Erica, and I am a Broadway-aholic. Well, actually a few years ago I was much worse than I am now, as I used to see at least one show a week. It’s been several months since I last saw a show, so I think I may be growing out of my (expensive) obsession (were it not for student rush and standing room, I’d be broke). But whenever the word “free” precedes the word “ticket,” I jump on it. My good friend and theater connoisseur Meredith offered me a ticket to a preview of comedian Martin Short’s new show Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, which is scheduled to open on August 17th. After scanning my calendar, I immediately accepted.

Now, Vogue

August 10th, 2006 by Katie

Strike a Pose. I imagined what pose I would strike for the cameras as soon as I received my first movie premiere invite from Vogue. When supplied with the “+1″ status, I did what any glamourite would do and grabbed my phone out of my clutch, passed by tall-dark-and handsome mens’ numbers and quickly called one of my partners in crime. Glamourite Lauren is a seat-of-her-pants mover-and-shaker who could talk the talk and walk the red carpet with the best of them. As we got ready in my midtown apt, it was “Cocktail dress. Check. Heels. Check. Business Cards. Check.”

Getting Some AER in New York

August 8th, 2006 by Edina

This past weekend nothing too crazy was going down so I pulled in some reinforcements. Scott Maldonado throws hot parties practically every night in Manhattan. On this particular night the place to be was AER. Though AER has had black and white mixed reviews I decided to go - considering most of my past experiences there were pleasant. When I arrived in the Meat Packing District there were more people out than I’ve seen all summer. Apparently everyone was looking for somewhere to go. AER had a mob outside, a fairly normal looking crowd - not an overwhelming amount of greasy Staten Island men or 16 year old girls.

Home Brew

The Gaf NYC

Tromping through the wilds of Madison, WI, these past few weeks, I have learned that, aside from cheese, polka, and “Don’t ya know,” Middle America is a hotbed of stellar draft beers. While savoring Maddy’s local suds with names like Fat Squirrel and Spotted Cow, I can’t help but miss the frothy goodness of my own bar-away-from-home’s original brew, The Gaf in NYC. The Irish Amber at the same-named Gaelic go-to is a sure bet for casual locals or adventurous newcomers.

Hipster Heaven & Hell

July 19th, 2006 by Lauren

The Hey TeamA group of New York City artists and socialites have put together Gala - a semi-monthly event combining an art show, a concert, and a party. Gala features upcoming talent to support New York City’s underdog artists. This particular show featured six artists and one screening. The six artists consisted of Felix Olivieri, Ryan Myers, Joshua Barash, Landen Brasseur, Kim Ibricevic, and Keila Diana Sone. All doused with talent…some more than others, and all of completely different mediums. From etching, sketching and skate board design, to artistic interpretation of pornography…this show will leave you wondering if these kids have made this their living or just their hobby…or maybe just an excuse to throw a party. Either way, between the $4 Bud Lights and the company of good-looking people you’ll find at Snitch EVERY Saturday night, I was managing to have a good time.

Holy Hamptons

July 17th, 2006 by Ingrid

It’s official—I have been to the Hamptons. Sound the trumpets, start the parade. After living in New York for almost three years, I’ve somehow managed to sidestep that end of Long Island, a feat made even more unbelievable considering my job has me fairly familiar with what’s going on out there. (Come to think of it, being fairly familiar with what’s going on out there might actually be the reason I’ve never been.) But you have to crack at some point, so when a friend decided to have her bachelorette party in Bridgehampton, I figured a midsummer visit was finally in order.
