In On the Jokes

Comix NYC“Ladies, do you realize when you’re on a plane… your vagina is flying?” That would be a no. And then I went to Comix. I checked out the club’s Happy Thursday Show recently, hosted by my friend Jordan Carlos, featuring comedy from Jeff Sussman, Jay Nog and headliner Russ Meneve.

I walked into the club thinking, I am in the wrong place. Every comedy club I have ever visited in downtown Manhattan always seems to feature the same “charming” too-low ceilings, musty aroma and bad food (not to mention a two-drink minimum, at least). By the end of the night at Comix, however, my opinion had changed forever.

Dream Date for the Pair Annoyed

May 7th, 2007 by Jane Marie

DegustationTry as I might to avoid Coupledoom, at times I find myself suffering from the nasty side effects of a long-term relationship. These include—but are not limited to—large, unsightly butt imprints in my couch cushions, overdoses of Chinese take-out and a hefty cable bill from renting too many movies On Demand. Not one to be held down, I often make it my mission to ensure that being one half of a pair doesn’t leave my favorite sex-kitten stilettos lying in my closet collecting dust.

When I recently set out to plan a date night for my other half and me, I wanted to find the perfect middleground between nights spent on the couch watching bad TV and nights that end with me stumbling past the doorman at 4 a.m. with a bag of McDonalds in hand. Next to buying my first pair of Choos, this was perhaps the best decision I have made in my entire adult life.

Handcuffs and Wine
Looking for a foolproof evening of intimacy with your new beau? May I suggest handcuffs and wine? This was the very theme of a party I attended on Saturday. The object of the night is to partner up with a fellow wino and finishing a bottle of your favorite varietal. The cuffs don’t come off until you’ve sipped the last drop. Kind of like Prison Break meets Blind Date.

Online Dating: Relationship Filter?

September 6th, 2006 by Abbey

People are leaning more and more towards internet dating these days because they feel they will be more emotionally protected. They are basically shopping for the perfect mate. I guess I’m just old……. fashioned, but I am unnerved by the impression that I will know someone’s darkest secrets and greatest dreams before I have met them face-to-face - especially when all communication is based on a snapshot or two, which are usually more indulgent than insightful and can depend on the type of person the online dater is trying to snag. That’s right. Snag. Let’s be honest here. Online profiles are basically a net cast out consisting of alluring images and words meant to encapsulate one’s appeal.
