Gisele, Tom, and Tennis

May 23rd, 2007 by Jasmine

TennisEach year, I excitedly wait for the U.S. Open to come to New York, always making sure I attend at least one game. When it’s still months away, like right now, I enjoy keeping up with other tournaments around the world on television. I vicariously live through the players on the courts because even though I try to play at least three times a week (and despite how damn cute I am in a flouncy little tennis ensemble), I’ll never get to pro status.

Museum Mile

May 16th, 2007 by Jasmine

Metropolitan Greek and Roman ExhibitThe city has been buzzing about the new Greek and Roman Galleries that just opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so when an art aficionado friend of mine came into town last weekend I considered it a “must-do” while she was here. Saturday morning we excitedly met up on the vast front staircase leading up to the Metropolitan Museum. Before we walked in, my friend informed me that the stairs leading up to museums symbolize the aspirations we all should have to the artists inside.

Sail Away

April 30th, 2007 by Jasmine

ShearwaterWhen I moved to New York City in 2000, I started a list of things I have wanted to do. Nearly seven years have passed, and the list never stops growing. From only-in-New York stuff to touristy things that I have never had the chance to do, I am taking this moment to make a mid-year resolution: check off the list one item at a time. Number one: Sailing.

Learning to sail has been a goal of mine since I was a child. To make my dream a reality last weekend, I embarked on the Shearwater Sailing yacht, an 82-foot, double-masted schooner built in 1929. Taking advantage of the perfect, sunny 80-degree weather, I grabbed Glamourites Lauren and Tracee and headed for the horizon, with a detour at the Statue of Liberty.

Red Carpet: Stormbreaker

October 11th, 2006 by Jasmine

Alex Rider: Stormbreaker

Ewan McGregor stepped out of his limousine onto the red carpet for his new movie, Alex Rider: Stormbreaker. I caught my breath as our eyes locked. He walked up to me and said hello, that he would only be in New York a bit, and asked if I would like to grab a drink or three with him…Actually, that was more how it happened in my imagination. Sadly, the truth is Ewan walked right past me without even a glance, but a girl’s got a right to pretend. He was too short for me anyway.

A Second Helping of Life

October 3rd, 2006 by Jasmine

Mario Batali and Daphne Rubin-Vega

As I walk down Law and Order Way (named for the television show filmed there) to the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers, I think to myself exactly how many glasses of wine I will allow myself to imbibe at this event – an important event entitled “A Second Helping of Life” benefiting SHARE – an organization dedicated to self-help for women with Breast and Ovarian Cancer. I’m pretty sure my grandmother is a survivor of both breast and ovarian cancer, but she is very quiet about the ovarian cancer so I’m not 100% sure. I know she did survive breast cancer, however, and I know how serious an issue it is. Which is why, even though the event consisted of the Top Chefs and Top Wine Companies in New York City dedicating their time to tantalize our tastebuds, I knew I needed to keep it as simple and sober as possible – while still having fun.
