Rock & a Hard Place

November 12th, 2006 by Edina

RetoxWhen I heard that Mike Diamond, the founder of the notorious Snitch bar, was opening a brand-spanking-new rock ’n’ roll club called Retox, I was extremely excited. Since CBGB closed and Diamond sold Snitch - only after The Man hit him with fines for some rockin’ offenses such as smoking, underage drinking and fire hazards - New York’s upscale rockers have felt a serious void in our lives.

There’s nothing quite like kicking back, smoking a ciggy and rockin’ out to some old-school AC/DC while sipping on your own never-ending stash of Absolut. So the first weekend of Retox was a must-see for me. After meeting up with a group of about 30 people, I headed to the door, when, unsurprisingly, the bouncer refused to let all of my entourage in. But this rocker chick got to roll in with 15 of her closest, craziest rock star friends and grab a table anyway.

Jet Calls in Sick

October 14th, 2006 by Edina

JetI was schedule to take in Jet concert, promoting their new album Shine On, which Fuse TV’s 7th Avenue Drop recorded on Thursday Sept 29. A friend of mine is the casting director who regularly sneaks me into these events, past events have included The Strokes and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

When I arrived at the flashy Fuse studio on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue, I spied a line of excited mini-hipsters wrapping around the corner as they waited to pile into the studio and stand within sweat-slinging distance of the rock gods as they performed. Since I don’t like lines (or hipsters), I walked past it all and slipped into the Fuse building. That’s when chaos began.

Usher’s Galaxy

August 30th, 2006 by Edina

Usher

Tuesday night I went out to meet up with some friends at a low key bar in Union Square called Galaxy. When I got there it was the usual mischievous loud and annoying shenanigans that seem to surround me where ever I go (poor me) and considering there was only one other group of people at the bar, I didn’t feel too bad for being my usual loud and obnoxious self. After a holla at my friends, they laughingly informed me that they just met Usher - pointing towards the other group of people who were big black men in suits. Assuming my friends were kidding, I laughed out loud and yelled “UUSSHHUUURRR!!” and did a dance which could only be described as my best impression of Usher.

Coors Light Elevation Tour

August 23rd, 2006 by Edina

Coors Light Summer Elevation Tour Evite One of my mottos as a full-fledged Glamourite girl is “If you’ve got nothing to do and nowhere to go, follow the free booze.” That’s exactly what I did last Thursday and to my surprise I found myself at an invite only Coors Light event.

Getting Some AER in New York

August 8th, 2006 by Edina

This past weekend nothing too crazy was going down so I pulled in some reinforcements. Scott Maldonado throws hot parties practically every night in Manhattan. On this particular night the place to be was AER. Though AER has had black and white mixed reviews I decided to go - considering most of my past experiences there were pleasant. When I arrived in the Meat Packing District there were more people out than I’ve seen all summer. Apparently everyone was looking for somewhere to go. AER had a mob outside, a fairly normal looking crowd - not an overwhelming amount of greasy Staten Island men or 16 year old girls.

The Great Escape

July 17th, 2006 by Edina

This past weekend I made my great escape from the New York madness. The destination was Nantucket via Cape Cod. When I arrived in “The Cape” I was greeted by white picket fences and quaint antique houses. The first thing I noted was how layed back everything was. I never heard a car horn, the speed limit is 25mph everywhere, and everyone says hello whether they knew you or not. I immediately was forced to switch into vacation mode but not before stopping at the liquor store. Day one was filled with “good ol’ fashioned fun”-sailing in the lake, badminton in the yard, and of course swimming at the beach even though the water was about 40 degrees. It only took three days for me to feel like I was betraying my New York roots and needed a night of naughty. When night fell we packed up the booze and headed for the beach. Not remembering the walk home or anything after, I felt like I had redeemed myself.
