Online Dating: Relationship Filter?

September 6th, 2006 by Abbey

People are leaning more and more towards internet dating these days because they feel they will be more emotionally protected. They are basically shopping for the perfect mate. I guess I’m just old……. fashioned, but I am unnerved by the impression that I will know someone’s darkest secrets and greatest dreams before I have met them face-to-face - especially when all communication is based on a snapshot or two, which are usually more indulgent than insightful and can depend on the type of person the online dater is trying to snag. That’s right. Snag. Let’s be honest here. Online profiles are basically a net cast out consisting of alluring images and words meant to encapsulate one’s appeal.

Bloody Viewings

August 14th, 2006 by Abbey

I have to admit that I have been out with my share of losers in the last few years, so I knew I had found a superior breed of male when a man I’ve been out with ONCE before asked if he could take me to the theater for our second date. YES! I quickly responded to his text. “I’d love to see The Lieutenant of Inishmore,” he quickly typed back.

Hell’s Kitchen’s Heavenly Benefits

Riposo 46

I met up with Glamourites Lola and Jasmine at a new little restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen called Riposo 46 and upon entering, that age old saying “good things come in small packages” came to mind. Riposo 46, located on 9th avenue between 46th and 47th, is a quaint hole-in-the-wall place that reminds me of a wine bar in Italy. A long wine bar up against the exposed red-brick wall takes up the back area with a couple of small tables interspersed throughout the surrounding space.

Girl’s Night Out

Sheckys

Sipping my bottle of Little Black Dress Pinot Grigio through a straw (yes, as you can tell I was the pinnacle of class), all senses were on high alert as the true talent associated with navigating masses of women on a mission to bargain shop set in.

Attending a Shecky’s Girl’s Night Out Shopping Event takes some spunk and pizzazz. Be ready to deal with crowds of New York females using all of their muscle to break through to the display tables and take full advantage of their full five hours of discount shopping mania. (more…)

Smalls/Fat Cat: Where everyone knows your name

June 4th, 2006 by Abbey

Smalls One of the joys of living in the village is that you never really feel like you are in New York City. You have all the benefits of bars and restaurants staying open late, and yet you can still see the sky. Two of my favorite spots in the village are the cute modest jazz dive bar SMALLS and it’s sister bar FAT CAT. These exposed brick basement spaces house the best of the be-bop underground jazz scene.
