Jet Calls in Sick

October 14th, 2006 by Edina

JetI was schedule to take in Jet concert, promoting their new album Shine On, which Fuse TV’s 7th Avenue Drop recorded on Thursday Sept 29. A friend of mine is the casting director who regularly sneaks me into these events, past events have included The Strokes and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

When I arrived at the flashy Fuse studio on 34th Street and Seventh Avenue, I spied a line of excited mini-hipsters wrapping around the corner as they waited to pile into the studio and stand within sweat-slinging distance of the rock gods as they performed. Since I don’t like lines (or hipsters), I walked past it all and slipped into the Fuse building. That’s when chaos began.

I was greeted by a few friends with distraught looks on their faces. “Jet canceled,” they informed me. More to the point, “We have to tell all of those people that Jet isn’t going to be playing.” Being the good friend that I am, I responded “You mean you have to tell them, not me.” Apparently the lead singer had developed a nasty case of laryngitis, which also ultimately forced the band to cancel an appearance on Jay Leno a few days later. At least it wasn’t rock star prima donna antics, I guess.

To acknowledge their hipster fans’ support, the band - sans lead singer - decided to do a meet-and-greet instead of a show. After shooting a video, taking too many photos and signing a million autographs, everyone went home happy and I went to my own personal rock ’n’ roll heaven, Stereo.
