Bondage and Bondi

Handcuffs and Wine
Looking for a foolproof evening of intimacy with your new beau? May I suggest handcuffs and wine? This was the very theme of a party I attended on Saturday. The object of the night is to partner up with a fellow wino and finishing a bottle of your favorite varietal. The cuffs don’t come off until you’ve sipped the last drop. Kind of like Prison Break meets Blind Date.

Though I did not conceive this genius idea or host the party myself, I did recruit a couple of my friends, keeping in mind that the people you bring to this kind of party must be carefully selected. Worst case scenario, you’ll have some tasty wine and can inflict passive-aggressive cuffburns on your party-pooping date. Best case scenario, your fella du jour will be down for the kinky kinship and, taking in the warmth of a full-bodied red on a cold autumn night, the subtle, “unintentional” brushing of your hands will pave the way to a little bit of good night and good luck, if you get my drift. Half of bottle of pinot grigio later, I can attest that, despite some upfront demurring from some of my less adventurous pals, good times were had by all.

Bondi RoadIf things go well, you can bond without the cuffs at Bondi Road, a new upscale fish-and-chips shop on the Lower East Side. Based on the famed Australian surf spot, the ocean-themed eatery from the owners of the Sunburnt Cow has looping film footage of gnarly surf passes projected on its marine-blue back wall.

While soaking in a sea of Aussie accents, I noshed on ridiculously fresh barramundi and chips and imbibed a refreshing variation on a mojito made with the house-infused pineapple vodka. Other infused vodkas, including mango and pomegranate, are in the tantalizing potions on the restaurant’s new cocktail list, which includes themed drinks like Surf’s Up, Sand in Your Pants and Sex on Bondi Beach. My personal favorite was a combination of passionfruit, tequila and orange juice. Bondi-licious!
