Scarlett turns Scarlet

As more ads for The Black Dahlia surface on television, I keep being reminded of a night when I visited the Spotted Pig in Manhattan’s West Village a few months ago. Though I have been to the Spotted Pig many times, the movie reminds me of this particular visit because Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett were hanging out with Jay Z. Random group? I thought so.
The crowd remained cool and unaffected, but my one friend wanted to speak with Josh. Usually I am completely against bothering anyone famous (besides Julia Stiles when I am completely wasted), but my friend just happened to grow up in the same neighborhood as Josh, and they had mutual friends – creating an automatic exception to the rule. So when he finally detached himself from Scarlett (who had a bull nose ring in, ummm huh?) and went to the bar to get a drink, he created the perfect opening for my friend to saunter up and start a conversation.
Did he remember their mutual friends? Yes, indeed he did – and the conversation took off from there. Watching from my perch in the corner and sipping my pino grigio, I saw Scarlett take notice of the conversation and gradually walk over. Yes, she was dating Josh at the time and had a look of not appreciating another girl speaking with him. I wondered what she was going to do.
Tiny Scarlett walked over to the conversation and, acting as if my friend wasn’t there at all, inserted herself between my friend and Josh, with her back to my friend. No “excuse me,” no acknowledgement of my friend whatsoever. My friend was slightly shocked and angered by her rude behavior, but it actually looked kind of funny from my angle across the room being that Scarlett is probably about 5’2 and my friend is about 5’10, and Josh is over 6 feet! They could have just kept talking over her without ever noticing her existence.
I laughed and told my friend to not let it bother her – it’s a total compliment that Scarlett even got jealous. Personally I think Scarlett is adorable, even with that ridiculous nose ring. Though my friend is hot, I don’t think Scarlett had anything to be insecure about – unless her relationship was on the rocks.
