Getting Some AER in New York
August 8th, 2006 by Edina
This past weekend nothing too crazy was going down so I pulled in some reinforcements. Scott Maldonado throws hot parties practically every night in Manhattan. On this particular night the place to be was AER. Though AER has had black and white mixed reviews I decided to go - considering most of my past experiences there were pleasant. When I arrived in the Meat Packing District there were more people out than I’ve seen all summer. Apparently everyone was looking for somewhere to go. AER had a mob outside, a fairly normal looking crowd - not an overwhelming amount of greasy Staten Island men or 16 year old girls.
I don’t do lines very well so I walked to the front. Like a charm the red rope was much more inviting. “Who are you with?” asks the doorman holding a guest list of about 10 pages. Hmmm…who am I with? “I’m friends with Scott…. ” I reply hoping that’s what he wants to hear. “No, who are you here with?” he snaps back “I’m by myself.” I like being by myself anyway. “Let her in!” he shouts at the 20 foot doorman dressed in black. Not the nicest conversation I’ve had but I got what I wanted and that’s all I really care about anyway. I went downstairs to meet up with my friends who had just received their first bottle of Grey Goose. Hugs and kisses from all and then I was handed a vodka cran to sip on.
I spotted another group of friends in a back room so I went over to say hi. Upon entering, I was immediately informed that the back room contained a party for a few artists for Sony BMG records. What sealed the deal wasn’t the overweight rappers or the underweight models - I was interested in the 3 magnum bottles of Moët & Chandon Rose so I stayed and had a glass….and then I had another. About 4 or 11 glasses of champagne later, it was 4 am and I decided it was for my own good to cut myself off and head home, especially if I wanted to get up for work the next morning. Luckily I still had the same finesse that I had entered the club with (I think) and I was therefore able to sneak out undetected and jumped into a cab that seemed to be waiting just for me.
