Flirting With Danger
July 24th, 2006 by Katie
Running to a last-minute fashion launch party in the rain on the hottest day of the year, isn’t actually a bad problem to have. I met a good friend and her boyfriend at Stereo in Chelsea to check out a new men’s line of fashion that they had just photographed – Nick Danger. Just as I arrived at Stereo in Chelsea, the sky opened up into one of those amazing summer downpours. With only a drizzle of rain on my shoulders, I was luckier than the suckers huddling under a gutter to smoke out front.
I walked into the dimly-lit club with loudly-dressed patrons who were all there to toot the designer’s horn. The eclectic crowd was invariably in the fashion biz as well, which made it hard for me to spot the designer of the night, Mr. Nick Danger himself.
I stared at the silver-haired man in the sophisticated yet down-to-earth outfit (do men call them ‘outfits’?) and was happily surprised to see that he was a high-fiving, story-telling man who looked as though the stars had aligned for only that night. He was the happiest fool I’ve ever seen. Then I looked around him and realized everyone else appeared that same way, and before I could say “I’ve-had-to-much-free-Blavod-black-vodka,” I realized he must be contagious.
Only contagious people can start businesses, launch fashion lines or write for fabulous blogs (plug*) because they inspire others to see something they haven’t noticed before. And I had never seen a line of clothes like this before. The simplistic, alternative-yet-charming line was more than strong; it was street-worthy and consumer-conscious. Macy’s thought so too - so now you can check out the Nick Danger line in stores near you.
