Please Depaz the Rum

June 8th, 2006 by Daphne

SmallsIt was a cloudy New York City evening as I made my way to the ultra exclusive lounge, The Double Seven, in the Meatpacking District for my very first rum tasting event, the New York City debut of the new Depaz Rhum (apparently too good for the normal “r-u-m”). Of course, I was fashionably on time. With a Glamourite girl (Jasmine and Lola) on each arm, we were greeted by a sea foam green clad goddess, bidding us welcome, and enter the absolute “pinnacle of NYC tres cool” that is Double Seven. Making our way through the entry tunnel, transitioning from NYC lights to exclusive lounge darkness, I became an immediate “rhum” connoisseur the minute I sipped the first drink of the night - the Midnight Mojito.

With my first sip of this timeless concoction, I became a Depaz rhum Cinderella, all my pumpkin knowledge of rum transformed into a white-coach love that would bear me from one Depaz infused ambrosia to the next - and the next, and the next. We situated ourselves on one of the three leather communal seats, our smiles and glasses encapsulating the amber colored Depaz, intoxicatingly illuminated by hundreds of blown-glass droplets seemingly hovering on the wall behind us. Dark-haired beauties loved our table as we continuously accepted their offerings of delectable morsels such as miniature crab cakes, slices of steak, and chicken shish kebab drenched in a peanut based sauce. Imagine this all happening in slow motion, because after several heavenly drinks - it was.

Though Depaz is the product of the renowned Chateau Depaz Estate on the lush tropical island of Martinique, its home is clearly on the top shelf of New York City’s finest establishments. As the evening drew to a close, each guest was treated to a goody bag filled with scrumptious Depaz seduced chocolate truffles from the Bouley Bakery & Market (the genius of superstar chef David Bouley). The highlight, however, was the included miniature bottles of the Depaz Rhum, a potent reminder to each guest that though this party has ended, now that Depaz has arrived on the fine aqua vitae scene of NYC, the real party has only begun - and we glamourites are ready.
